Adoptable cats

Most of these cats have been prepared to travel to North America and to other countries that only require basic and rabies vaccines. The animal may be able to travel immediately or within 30 days, once an appropriate pet escort to the adopter's region is found.

Any cats for Europe (rabies testing and microchipping - see cats with **) are noted on their bios. A three month quarantine is required for these cats (spent at EMRO), and many have already finished this and only await pet escorts (and adoption!). Note: not all European countries have the same process of 3 month wait after rabies test and microchip. Please check with your countries' guidelines for small animal import.

Any cats for UK or Australiasia require a 6 month quarantine/residency in a country that is rabies free. Currently, cats would do a residency in France or Bahrain, after which the cat would be escroted (if in France) or shipped (flown) to the respective country, that is, directly to the UK and a further month quarantine in Australia. For details contact us.

NOTE: Most adoptable cats may also be sponsored while awaiting adoption, and each cat may be sponsored by more than one person.

To begin the adoption process, a questionnaire application must be filled out and sent to adopt@emaurescue.org or to info@emaurescue.org as an attachment. If you are unable to use this method, please email us. For the adoption application, please use this Word document by downloading it to your computer, filling it out by computer or by hand (scanned) and attaching it back to us. The adoption contract must also be signed before the cat travels.

For more information about Maus or the adoption process, please click on More Adoption Information.

For more information about pet escorts, please see the pet escort section.

For more information about the adoptive procedure or about the different cats, please contact adopt@emaurescue.org.

PLEASE ALSO CONSIDER MAUS and other cats from SAUDI ARABIA (KSA--Kingdom of Saudi Arabia)!

Comments:

In Zagazig, a lady named Doaa' noticed that a young mom Mau cat gave birth to two babies and died and the two youngsters were left crying for food and out of fear on the road. Out of pity she called us up and managed to catch one of them but sadly the other died of starvation and brought it to EMRO by taxi. Without a current overnight animal worker, the General Manager, Maged, nursed the kitten several times a day with kitten milk donated by kind volunteer Aida of California, and thus the kitten was named after her! The kitten survived and is now being fed and socialized by another volunteer, in Maadi. VERY cute, sweet and sociable.

She says he gives love out to everyone all day and tries to obey if you are upset with him. Very sweet, gentle and smart, and very clean. But he is very sweet, gentle, quiet kitty who purrs alot. He is shy around other cats and hides his head under his paw if they come up to him as he doesn't want to fight and knows he is weak. Good for a quiet, loving home. Gentle, loving cat. Perhaps an operation could fix the problem? More info and pictures if interested.

TAZO The Egyptian Mau Cat who inspired EMRO! A Legend in his own time!

Tazo TAZO Chai Fostered by Nick, BC, Canada

Tazo, the inspiration for EMRO is up for adoption! EMRO began through the adoption of this silver Egyptian Mau who was bought from a (now non operating) Mau breedery in Alberta, Canada in 2003. Later that year, the owner, Gloria Lauris, went to Cairo for that fateful trip looking for a companion for Tazo and realized that Maus were not to be found in the pet stores or any breeders in Egypt and that they were running feral on the street, mainly in colours of bronze, red or black, salvaging in garbage cans for food. Frustrated by attempts to catch feral maus with no equipment and little vet care to get them back to Canada, EMRO was thus born in concept to make it easier for others to adopt Maus from Cairo, the homeland of the Mau (they are available also through Asia), as well as help save this national living treasure from disease, abuse and extinction. Since Ms. Lauris travels so much back and forth between her native Canada, Egypt and KSA (Saudi Arabia), keeping a pet herself remains currently unrealistic. After being fostered for a few years by her elderly father while she was overseas, Ms. Lauris feels it is now time to give Tazo a more stable home where he would get more attention and be appreciated for the true treasure that he is. Tazo is a former breeding Mau and is neutered and enjoys his food alot (he is on a diet). He would do best in a home with other cats as he is a dominant (alpha) male. He used to be in the kitten room at his original breedery to help socialize them by cleaning their whiskers and fur. Ideally, his pal Spunky, the black Manx would like to come along (about the same age or slightly younger) but this is not absolutely necessary. If he could have access to a safe outdoor yard that also would be ideal. For inquiries or applications for Tazo please contact: info@emaurescue.org and state why you believe you are the best home for him. Note: Preference MAY be given to those within driving distance of Vancouver, BC, Canada, where Tazo currently resides so the current owner can periodically visit. Tazo Chai is a TICA registered silver spotted Egyptian Mau from Elquairo Cattery. DOB:28/3/01.

CALLI

Calli
Status: Available; Sponsored by Rebekah, UK
Colour:

Calico

Gender:

Female (spayed)

Age:

(b. July 2005)

Vaccinations:

yes

Comments:

Calli is a sweet cat, she hangs around outside and in of EMRO HQ. She was found by staff being chased by some bully cats and coaxed down from scaffolding. She has hung around ever since. She had an intestinal hernia which was fixed when she was spayed. She would enjoy her own home where she could go in and outside and perhaps with a companion that she could gradually warm up to, likely a laid back older cat. She thinks she is a Mau since she hangs out with Maus all day and has big spots herself, being a calico!

Other Notes:

Good indoor/outdoor pet!
