Mau sponsorship

There are three main categories of sponsorable cats:

  • A: EMRO Cats that have Health Issues or Age (Usually still adoptable)
  • B: EMRO Feral Cats (Occasionally adoptable)
  • C: Also check out Cats for Adoption or KSA Cats - they are all also sponsorable!

March 08 Note: We have abandoned our idea of sending Maus to Germany due to the shelters remaining too full there, and due to lack of reliable connections. Plus two of the three cats have already been adopted (Habiba, awaiting going to the UK and Floran adopted locally) which leaves Afrutu whom we hope will find a home locally or overseas. Otherwise he will be released outside. However the last time we did that he was totally miserable outside and had to be brought in again and cleaned up. He is still available for sponsorship while awaiting adoption!! See Adoptable cats for more info and his photo!

If you are interested in sponsorship, you can sponsor one or more cats through:

  • a one time donation
  • monthly recurring donations of US$15 or €10 (Categories A, B or C)
  • donate a full $300 or €250 to send a cat to Germany (Category A). You can make a Category A sponsorship right now by clicking on one of these buttons:

US DOLLARS
Category A: $300.00

EUROS
Category A: €250.00

Sponsorers will have heir names listed (if wished) by the cat of their choice or they can leave it to EMRO to decide which funds go to which cat, based on need. Please contact sponsor@emaurescue.org for donations, sponsorship or more information.

EMRO thanks those below who are donating monthly to general shelter sponsorship and have not yet decided which cat to sponsor or just wish to donate to general expenses. Please note that we can use more than one person for sponsoring each cat, to help with expenses (estmated to be over $50/mo per cat!).

  • Sharon of NC, USA
  • Aida of CA, USA
  • Betty of IL, USA

MOMO

Momo
Status: Available! Sponsored by Sharon of NC, USA
Colour:

Bronze Mau

Gender:

Male (neutered)

Age:

(b. Spring 2001)

Vaccinations:

up to date, including rabies

Comments:

This cat was a rescue from the street from a Canadian Ex-pat living in Cairo. His siblings got run over but she managed to save him from the road. A shy cat, he is now in a foster home in Cairo awaiting his forever home. Foster carer, Holly describes Momo as a "big puddle of love". He loves to snuggle close, doesn't purr much but looks blissed out (see pic). Patient and gentle with young children, and loves both men and women. A wonderful cat!

Other Notes

Currently fostered in Cairo home where the foster family says he is a gem, very sweet and is frequently a lap cat.

B: EMRO Cats for Sponsorship - Feral or Outdoor cat

For $15 (USD) or €10 (EUR) per month you can help sponsor a cat at the EMRO shelter. We hope to release these cats in future to our sanctuary… pending additional funding! Please use Paypal to make a one-time donation, or a monthly recurring sponsorship donation. You may also make further inquiries by emailing our sponsorship manager here.

Feb 08 Update: as we are unable to get enough funds to home these cats at the future sanctuary for the foreseable future, we have been releasing many of the most feral Maus around the EMRO shelter since the Fall and feeding them outside, due to overcrowding inside and to the fact that we don't want to keep feral maus indefinately in a one room life. The risks to the Maus near the shelter is lower than in other areas in Cairo as there is a low poison rate and the traffic is lesser in our area than most other areas of the city. We will continue to monitor and feed these cats that are released outside.

We have built a small garden area around the shelter for the ferals to hide in upon release (courtesy of a donation of Aida Marina of CA, USA!). See Recent EMRO News for pics of this garden!
